3.1 Here I Come

Posted in Misamane on April 14, 2009 by emptyay

The patch just finished! Here I go into the…same content, considering I haven’t run a single heroic or raid, and I don’t even have the 1000g to dual spec.

Whoo!!

Update: Ummm…all the realms are still down…I forgot hahaha. So much for that! Some thoughts on 3.1 to come later tonight or maybe tomorrow!

Honest Scrap

Posted in Misamane on April 14, 2009 by emptyay

Ok, I can’t put it off any longer! Here goes! Damn you, DDK.

Rules:

  1. When accepting this auspicious award, you must write a post bragging about it, including the name of the misguided soul who thinks you deserve such acclaim, and link back to the said person so everyone knows she/he is real.
  2. Choose a minimum of seven (7) blogs that you find brilliant in content or design. Or improvise by including bloggers who have no idea who you are because you don’t have seven friends. Show the seven random victims’ names and links and leave a harassing comment informing them that they were prized with Honest Weblog. Well, there’s no prize, but they can keep the nifty icon.
  3. List at least ten (10) honest things about yourself. Then pass it on!

Ok let’s see…number one…

HOLY CRAP! I am SO AWESOME! I got SCRAPPED! Like…after everyone else…dead last…well…this isn’t going extremely well, is it. Hmmm…

Moving on!

The Blogs! Yes, of course.

Well…the obvious #1 for me is Ego, even though they’ve been hit before. Not a day goes by where I don’t hop over there and check out the comments and/or new posts!

Captain the First at NoobDing also gets frequented. Great posts and great info. Always a winner.

I’m going to list the Shattersphere in hopes that a new post shows up. Someday. Dammit. Please?

BobTurkey is quickly becoming one of my absolute favorite blogs to read. Srsly. Go look, I dare you.

Whenever I want to feel like I know absolutely nothing about my class, or that I’m lazy and need to play more, I head over to PenancePriest.

Flyv is my guilty pleasure…my highest lvl drood is like…lvl 14…but I still devour everything on the site in case I ever get one close to 80, lol.

Dragon’s Den closes out my seven…and this one is always interesting just because of the RP conversations between the WoW characters and the player of said characters. Quite entertaining.

Ok…damn. 10 facts? Hmmm..

1. I hit 80 about a week after WotLK hit, and….haven’t run a single heroic. Or raid. Or…anything. At all.

2. I’m afraid of drowning…but mostly drowning trapped in something with a tiny bit of air at the top…and drowning from simply being too exhausted to get to that tiny bit of air to survive. This is a very specific fear.

3. I cannot live without Penny Arcade! and Cyanide and Happiness.

4. I give awesome foot massages.

5. Sometimes, I stay dead so I can play Bejewled, even if people are waiting for me.

6. I’d rather collect vanity pets and fish than do anything else in the game.

7. I’ve never looked at a boss strat before running the instance…but if you explain the fight to me there’s a 75% chance I’ll do everything right. If we wipe, there’s a 100% chance I’ll do it right the second time.

8. If people who DO read strats get things wrong after I get them right, it annoys me more than anything else in the entire game. That dragon guy in Kara, back in the day…with the colory beams…I could have killed people.

9. I work from home, and consider it an accomplishment to get through the entire day still in my pajamas.

10. The top things that keep me from WoW are work, friends and family, Magic: The Gathering, and assembling/painting Warhammer miniatures.

I did it! Whooo!!! And just in time…the updater is almost done with 3.1!!

Honest (s)Crap — The Prequel

Posted in Misamane on April 4, 2009 by emptyay

So…I just linked to in this (s)Crap thing, so it looks like I have to come out of retirement and post. No, really, I’ve been on somewhat of a hiatus for a while, and I’m hoping to get back into playing a bit more (meaning at all) and posting. Luckily for me, I’ve never tried to be a theorycrafter or a giver of sage endgame advice, so really, I don’t have as much work to do as Matticus or Vonya or anyone of that caliber.

But, to say that I feel a bit guilty being linked on Ego and never, ever posting. I vow to make that better. Coming soon…my Honest (s)Crap post!  WhooO!!!

BobTurkey’s Guest Post!

Posted in Guest Posts on February 17, 2009 by emptyay

Alright, the first (and only, so far) guest post is here! Many thanks to BobTurkey for the great post! –Misa

I’m going to break every superstitious belief I have and jinx myself right off the bat.  The upcoming mana regen nerf isn’t going work!  Well at least not for Disc priests like me. Here’s why:

“Regeneration while not casting (outside of the “five second rule”) will be decreased. We think that (1) the ability to cast heal over time spells and then sit back and (2) benefiting from a clear casting proc that also gets you out of the five second rule both provide too much mana regeneration, even over short time periods.

To make this change, we are reducing mana regeneration granted by Spirit across the board. However we are also boosting the effects of talents such as Meditation that increase regeneration while casting. The net result should be that your regeneration while casting will stay about the same, but your not-casting regeneration will be reduced. This change will have little impact on dps casters, since they are basically always casting.

The specific talents and abilities being boosted are: Arcane Meditation, Improved Spirit Tap, Intensity, Mage Armour, Meditation, Pyromaniac and Spirit Tap. Yes this makes these “mandatory” talents even more mandatory, if such a thing is possible.”

Nerfing spirit, but buffing Meditation right?  So the way I understand this, we are going to have less mana regen outside the 5 second rule (OS5SR), but about the same inside the 5 second rule (IS5SR). Meh. Disc priests, like DPS casters, already spend a lot of their time IS5SR. So yeah… *tumbleweed rolls past*

Disc priests already consider spirit a low priority, and this is really just going to make it the ugly duckling.  Who is going to want spirit?

“We are also taking a close look at clear casting procs themselves. One likely outcome is to change them to an Innervate-like surge of mana so that the net benefit is the same, but healers won’t shift to out-of-casting regeneration so often.”

Clear casting procs… what are they again?  Disc priests have a grand total of zero ways of getting clear casting procs, so this has no effect on us.

“We balance around the assumption that even 10-player groups have someone offering Replenishment. To make this even easier on players, we are likely to offer this ability to additional classes, as well as make sure that existing sources of Replenishment are more equitable.”

More Replenishment!  Yay!  Disc priests love Replenishment, as we usually have big mana pools. Currently, Replenishment in raids means pretty much unlimited mana for Disc priests. So more unlimited mana means the mana nerf is actually a buff for Disc priests right?

“These changes are ultimately being done to bring the different healing classes more in line with each other as well as to give the encounter team more leeway when designing encounters, who can balance with these new mana regeneration numbers in mind. In a world with infinite healer mana, the only way to challenge healers is with increasingly insane amount of raid damage, so that global cool downs become the limiting factor since mana fails to be. An example is the Eredar Twins in late Sunwell. We weren’t necessarily happy with that model, and this change hopefully allows us to move towards giving healing a more deliberate and thoughtful pace rather than frenetic spam.”

I like the idea. I’m just not sure if this is going to balance the healing classes.  It seems to be a nerf to Holy Paladins, Holy Priests and Resto Druids, a slight buff to Disc Priests and Resto Shaman, well, no change? I’m not familiar enough with them to decide.

My current raiding experience has Holy and Disc priests about evenly balanced (when you include damage absorption) with Holy Palys lagging a little behind.  Resto Shaman and Druids are about on par with the priests depending on the fights. Maybe I’m completely wrong on the balance thing, but assuming I’m not, then perhaps a slight increase in the mana cost of individual spells would be more effective way of reducing the mana glut. Or perhaps *hits self with nerf bat* reducing the size of mana pools. I realize this decreases he value of Replenishment, which seems to be a favored child ATM, but it might be an option.

Raid buffed, I have around a 23K mana pool. With Replenishment I get 57 mana per second or 287 MP5. That pretty much doubles my mana regen IS5SR, and the current “nerfs” aren’t going to effect it.

So I’ve written all this and some of you are thinking, “Well it’s stated that it’s aimed at reducing the effectiveness of players using heals-over-time and clear casting to stay OS5SR.  So it’s not aimed at Disc Priests.”  You’re right its not.  But perhaps it should be? *hits self with nerf bat again*  I can’t remember the last time I went OOM in a fight, and I don’t think I have since 3.0.2. I only rarely need to use my Shadow Fiend. I’ve used maybe half a dozen mana pots since Wrath was released. Perhaps I should be targeted?

Anyway, I imagine that the game designers do some modelling of mana regen using some typical scenarios to decide on how they are going to alter the system, so perhaps the quoted changes are the most effect way of decreasing mana regen. *shrugs*

Either way, the game will still be here and it will still be playable, the playing field will have just shifted slightly for some players.  For Disc priests, the grass is certainly looking relatively greener.

Gobble gobble.

Well, it’s been a few weeks since I posted, and in that time I really haven’t had time to play much!

So…I need a guest post to liven things up!

Anyone interested? I’m looking at you, BobTurkey and anyone from Ego (including Shatter, without whom Ego’s comment pages would be rather dull)

Funnies At Chrome Cow

Posted in Misamane on January 26, 2009 by emptyay

In lieu of an actual post, which is being put on hold while I learn to play Warhammer 40k, continue painting my army, start D&D, and continue building my MTG elf deck that is currently killing people in 3-5 turns and is only getting better, I want to link to Chrome Cow’s US Democracy Server: Patch Day post. It is one of the funniest things I’ve read in a while, and I felt compelled to share it. Once again, this is for all of you out there that read my blog and don’t read Resto 4 Life. That’s right, both of you.

A Post To Call My Own

Posted in Misamane on January 13, 2009 by emptyay

So, in honor of my upcoming birthday (or so I’ll delude myself into thinking), Vonya over at Egotistical Priest has felt it necessary to grace her site with a post expounding on an email I sent her.

I urge everyone who blogs that comes here and doesn’t go to Ego (there’s a set of requirements that I’d be surprised if even one person met) to read that post, because it’s 100% true. If you want people to know you, comment. If you want, comment on my blog (I beg you) to let me know you’re here!

Also, the issue of not updating sidebars. As I read, I realized I’d bookmarked many good blogs that I keep up with, but I haven’t put them on my sidebar. So, as of today, I’ll be adding those blogs to my sidebar, in hopes that the 3-4 people who come here will then continue on to them. Give a warm welcome to:

Pew Pew Lazers!

Dragon’s Den

Angry Raid Leader

NoobDing

Penance Priest

Yes, yes, you’ve done well! To make it this far, you must be awesome. You can thank me later for all the amazing traffic my ever-popular site brings to you. Also, if your traffic doesn’t go up, well…yeah.

Speaking of traffic, as I hit “Publish”, I’ve gotten 155 visits so far today, eclipsing my previous best of 77 by…double+1!!

Celebration!

Work In Progress

Posted in Misamane on January 12, 2009 by emptyay

Hey, faithful followers! (both of you!)

I wanted to post to let you guys know that I’m in the middle of writing a post, but there’s a ton of stuff going on right now.

We found this awesome hobby shop in the area, and immediately got pulled into late nights of gaming.

So far, everyone in the house has learned to play Magic: The Gathering (I had to re-learn after not playing for years), we’ve blow money on a theme deck in every color and a full box of 10th-edition boosters (what fun!), we’ve made about 15 new friends, I’ve gotten my boss interested in Warhammer 40k (the tabletop, not the crappy PC game), I’ve gotten a few lessons on playing 40k and picking an army, and I’ve found 4-5 people that play WoW and we’ve already talked about either them moving to my server or all of us rerolling on a different server.

Exciting, I know! Anyway, all of that thrown in with regular work and a rekindled love of Oblivion on my 360 has left me very little time to even play WoW, and when I make time, it’s never enough to jump into a raid or Heroic, and I wind up playing an alt.

But, I’m working on a new post and hopefully it’ll be up soon :)

And to get extra traffic….Vonya! Ego!

See? I bet that works. :)

A Flood Of Relief

Posted in Misamane with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on January 8, 2009 by emptyay

Ok, so, ran some H Nexus with a few guildies (and a feisty female who sounded rather…attractive…in vent, Julietjuliet ;P) and figured out that yes, I am awesome (i.e. decent) and it was the tank that was lacking. We blew through the first boss with a DK tank and a warlock that was perhaps not entirely sure what game it was we were playing, and we did fine. I do get a little worried when everyone starts taking damage, but PoH does ok and our tank was great about aggro. There were times that I sat for a good 5-6 seconds with my finger on penance, waiting for something to knock the tank under 100%.

I’m thinking about speccing around a bit, playing with holy and shadow as well as disc to get a better understanding of everything I’m capable of at 80. I’ve already told some of my guildies that I’m willing to spec whatever is needed. If we wind up with enough heals, I’ll be happy to spec shadow or even go back to my dps hybrid (which I still love).

Ok, story time.

So the H Nexus group picked me up and we had four in the group. We were looking for another dps when the following took place:

Misa: “I haven’t healed as disc at 80 yet, and haven’t healed much at all in a while, so I might need a little while to get the hang of it.”

Someone: “Misa, you’re disc?”

Misa: “Yeah.”

Same Person: “So…we need a healer?”

Oh yes. I lol’d. :)
